The Oconto Blue Devils will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Oconto Falls Panthers at 4:15 p.m. Oconto has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 240 points over their last four matchups.
Oconto pushed their score all the way to 61 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Chilton by a score of 64-61. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Oconto came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Chilton is ranked 286th).
Meanwhile, Oconto Falls' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 61-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clintonville.
Despite the loss, Oconto Falls saw an underclassman step up: Jameson Beaman scored 20 points along with nine rebounds. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Alex Haines, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Oconto's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2. As for Oconto Falls, they bumped their record down to 2-7 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Oconto didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Oconto Falls in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 73-68 victory.
