Cumberland is 0-5 against North Kingstown since October of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cumberland Clippers will look to defend their home field against the North Kingstown Skippers at 7:00 p.m. Cumberland will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Friday, Cumberland faced Cranston West in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cumberland was the clear victor by a 28-7 margin over Cranston West. The result was nothing new for Cumberland, who have now won three matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, North Kingstown slipped by Barrington 20-19 on Friday. The victory was just what North Kingstown needed coming off of a 42-21 loss in their prior game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Kingstown to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cooper Berthelot, who picked up 167 receiving yards and a touchdown. Berthelot was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 60 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Rogers, who threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns.
North Kingstown's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Naftali Watson and his two sacks.
Cumberland's win was their third straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 6-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.7 points per game. North Kingstown has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Cumberland might still be hurting after the 34-14 defeat they got from North Kingstown in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Cumberland, Eddie Buehler (who threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
