Wheatland is 1-9 against East Nicolaus since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Wheatland Pirates are taking a road trip to face off against the East Nicolaus Spartans at 3:30 p.m.
On Monday, Wheatland came up short against Twelve Bridges and fell 9-5. The loss was the Pirates' first of the season.
Raelynn Hulsey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Ella Woolery, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Hulsey wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Wheatland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, East Nicolaus had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on Cosumnes Oaks with a sharp 15-4 victory.
Kylah Glenn and Peyton Becker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Glenn pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Becker pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, Glenn didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At bat, Glenn scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Becker scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs Glenn has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Gabby Sotelo was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. Lela DeCecco was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.
Having lost for the first time this season, Wheatland fell to 2-1. As for East Nicolaus, their record now sits at 1-0.
Wheatland came up short against East Nicolaus in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 9-4. Can Wheatland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
