Olympia and Sumner are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Bears will venture away from home to face off against the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Olympia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Olympia proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 12) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over South Kitsap. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Aliyah Eberle was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Nia Huckaby also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Olympia hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Sumner posted their closest victory since April 25, 2025 on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Yelm 3-2.
Josslyn Sorensen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Naya Alastra, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Olympia's record is now 3-5. As for Sumner, their record now sits at 5-1.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Olympia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Sumner struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Olympia suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Sumner when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
