Basketball Game Preview: Wabash Apaches vs. Maconaquah Braves

Wabash is 9-1 against Maconaquah since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Wabash Apaches will be playing in front of their home fans against the Maconaquah Braves at 7:00 p.m. Wabash is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.

Wabash is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Whitko just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Wildcats, falling 74-53.

Wabash might have lost, but man, Kaitlynn Honeycutt was a machine: she made all 8 shots she took to post 20 points and five rebounds. The game was Honeycutt's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brookelyn Buzzard, who posted 19 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Maconaquah's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They fell to Peru 51-45.

Despite the defeat, Maconaquah saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ireland Kile went 8 of 15 on her way to 22 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Stoll, who had six points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Maconaquah's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Wabash, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 12-4.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wabash has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 boards per game. However, it's not like Maconaquah struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Wabash strolled past Maconaquah in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a score of 48-31. Does Wabash have another victory up their sleeve, or will Maconaquah turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
