Basketball Recap: Deshler Extends Winning Streak to Three

Deshler had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past the Diller-Odell Griffin with points to spare, taking the game 49-35. For the Dragons, this counts as revenge for the 34-25 win the Griffin walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2021.

Deshler got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Carson Sieber out in front who went 10 of 11 en route to 20 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That's the most points Sieber has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Easton Nash, who posted 15 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Sieber wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Deshler was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Diller-Odell only racked up seven assists.

Diller-Odell lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Braydin Wendland, who had five points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Ben Sohl, who put up eight points.

Deshler's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Diller-Odell, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Deshler will be taking part in a tournament against Tri County at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Deshler is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season. As for Diller-Odell, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Sterling at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
