The Emporia Spartans struggled with assists on Friday (the Washburn Rural Blues had 15 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Emporia lost to the Blues at home by a decisive 48-31 margin. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Emporia has scored all season.
Sheldon Stewart and River Peters certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Stewart scored 14 points, while Peters scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Peters is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played.
Washburn Rural got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Griffin Durst out in front who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Amare Jones, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Emporia's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Washburn Rural, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season.
Emporia will play host again and welcome the Wildcats, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hayden has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 20. As for Washburn Rural, they will head out on the road to face off against the Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
