Evangel Christian has gone 8-2 against Wiregrass recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Lightning will face off against the Kings at 12:30 p.m. Evangel Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Evangel Christian will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Southern Christian on Friday. The Lightning put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 13-2 win. The Lightning haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
KC GABLES made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, RALEY CURTIS was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kemp Swords, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Evangel Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Christian only posted an OBP of .350.
Meanwhile, Wiregrass owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Ezekiel Academy 1-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Kings.
Not much got past Zach Crisler, who gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks to keep Ezekiel Academy off the board. Crisler is becoming a predictor of Wiregrass' success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't).
Evangel Christian's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Wiregrass, their record now sits at 7-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Evangel Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wiregrass struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Evangel Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Wiregrass in their previous matchup back in March, winning 6-1. Do the Lightning have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Kings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
