South Sioux City is 0-1 against Lincoln Southeast since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The South Sioux City Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Lincoln Southeast Knights at 7:00 p.m.
South Sioux City fell victim to Millard North's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Mustangs, falling 66-0. South Sioux City was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Southeast had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Bryan 54-6 on the road. Given Lincoln Southeast's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Bryan is ranked 105th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lincoln Southeast found their leader in underclassman Kadin Logan, who rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Parker Watson also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
With South Sioux City's defeat and Lincoln Southeast's victory, both teams now sport identical 5-3 records.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. South Sioux City has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 243.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lincoln Southeast struggles in that department as they've been averaging 178.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
South Sioux City was taken down by Lincoln Southeast 52-12 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for South Sioux City, Max Buettenback (who rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
