The Greene Central Rams pushed their score all the way to 58 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Beddingfield by a score of 60-58. While losing is never fun, Greene Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 445th, while Beddingfield is ranked 148th).
Greene Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Samuel Avent, who scored 20 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Avent scored 15 or more points. Deitrich Williams was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Greene Central has fallen quite a ways from their 23-7 record last season and are now at 2-4. As for Beddingfield, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.
Greene Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Kinston at 7:00 p.m. on December 13th. Kinston has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 385 points over their last six matches. Beddingfield will be home for the holidays to greet Nash Central at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th.
