The Cosby Titans are taking a road trip to square off against the Hanover Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Cosby is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Cosby is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on May 6th, they were much more limited against Midlothian two weeks ago. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 1-0. The Titans have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Cosby saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kam Brown, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Amelia McCovick also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Hanover had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Jaguars. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted since May 28, 2024.
Mallory Smithson tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April.
On the hitting side, Kaileigh Byars was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Marisa Sawn was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Hanover's record is now 11-7. As for Cosby, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.
Cosby might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Hanover in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
