The Carmel Corsairs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They wrapped up 2023 with a 68-53 victory over Belleville West. The victory was all the more spectacular given Carmel's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while Belleville West is ranked 148th).
Despite the loss, Belleville West still got an impressive performance from Myles Liddell, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds. De'rhaje Cross was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Carmel's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Belleville West, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.
Carmel won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mt. Vernon at 12:45 p.m. on December 29th. Mt. Vernon will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. Belleville West won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Payton College Prep at 9:00 a.m. on December 29th. Payton College Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Belleville West likes a good challenge.
