The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the South Webster Jeeps at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lynchburg-Clay is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
Last Thursday, Lynchburg-Clay's game was all tied up 29-29 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 54-46 victory over Peebles.
Lynchburg-Clay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jade Massey led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine steals. Massey hasn't dropped below three steals for 13 straight games. Another player making a difference was Macy Etienne, who scored 24 points.
Meanwhile, South Webster came into Thursday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Valley 50-48. The victory was just what South Webster needed coming off of a 50-29 defeat in their prior matchup.
Addi Claxon continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 25 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar Zimmerman, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Lynchburg-Clay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. South Webster's record is now 12-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Lynchburg-Clay have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like South Webster struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Lynchburg-Clay took their victory against South Webster in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 74-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lynchburg-Clay since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
