Meeker and De Beque are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Meeker Cowboys will square off against the De Beque Dragons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meeker has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 201 points over their last three games.
Meeker fought the good fight in their overtime contest against North Fork on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 59-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Miners.
Despite the defeat, Meeker had strong showings from Drew Drake, who on his way to 14 points and five boards, and Tyler Sanders, who posted 13 points and three steals. Said Rodriguez was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Meeker smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, De Beque made easy work of Vail Christian on Thursday and carried off a 57-35 victory. The Dragons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 20 points or more this season.
Meeker better focus on containing Burke Largent and Jace Graham as the pair were huge in De Beque's win. Largent almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine boards, while Graham dropped a double-double with 23 points and 24 rebounds. The contest was Largent's fifth in a row with at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Sandidge, who earned nine points.
De Beque is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points over those games. Meeker dropped their record down to 6-15 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Meeker has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.3 boards per game. However, it's not like De Beque struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Meeker strolled past De Beque in their previous meeting back in February of 2022 by a score of 44-29. Does Meeker have another victory up their sleeve, or will De Beque turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
