Bradwell Institute and Brunswick are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Bradwell Institute Tigers will welcome the Brunswick Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Brunswick will be up against a hot Bradwell Institute team: the squad just extended their winning streak to 11. Bradwell Institute really took it to Statesboro for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-38 victory. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Blue Devils are ranked 224th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Parris Parham was her usual excellent self, putting up 17 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja?Nya Bush, who posted nine points in addition to five assists and three steals.
Bradwell Institute smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 26 consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Brunswick on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Statesboro out of the water with a 60-33 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Pirates had established a 26 point advantage.
Bradwell Institute better keep an eye on Martin Davis. She was instrumental in Brunswick's win, earning nine points and seven steals. Davis is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Patrice Mungin was another key player, putting up 12 points.
Brunswick has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.4 points. As for Bradwell Institute, they pushed their record up to 21-2 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Bradwell Institute has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Brunswick struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Bradwell Institute strolled past Brunswick when the teams last played back in January by a score of 61-44. Will Bradwell Institute repeat their success, or does Brunswick have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
