After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bishop Gorman, The Desert Pines Jaguars were happy to have found some success on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Durango 33-6 at home. The result was nothing new for Desert Pines, who have now won four contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
The team won by holding Durango to a paltry no rushing yards and no passing yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Desert Pines' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out eight times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Steve Manuma and Kenneth Goodwin who racked up four sacks between them.
When it comes to explaining why Durango lost, one person who can't be blamed is Daelyn Gray. Despite the final result, he rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Gray's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards.
Desert Pines' win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Durango, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Desert Pines will be playing at home against Coronado at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Coronado is ranked eighth, while Desert Pines is ranked fourth). As for Durango, they will head out on the road to face off against Foothill at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Foothill's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Durango has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
