Division I recap November 5, 2013
Barrington added to the longest winning streak in Division I this week by beating La Salle Academy, 7-6. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Eagles.
East Providence led the league in scoring this week after putting up 38 points on South Kingstown.
The Rams' dynamic duo of Jace Pena and Keon Wilson proved to be unstoppable against Barrington, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Pena threw for 126 yards and 1 touchdown and Wilson had 108 yards receiving. Sam James helped La Salle Academy's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 10 yards.
Matthew Sewall was a passing and rushing force as Portsmouth defeated Cranston East. He completed 3 passes for 17 yards and also ran for 286 yards.
Sewall was a beast in the backfield as the Patriots bested the Thunderbolts.
Cranston East's ALEX CORVESE and MARVEN BEAUVAIS have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback CORVESE has thrown for 1,706 yards this season, while BEAUVAIS has 36 catches for 752 yards. Sewall from Portsmouth leads the league in rushing with 1,272 yards.
The marquee game in Division I this week will be the clash between Bishop Hendricken and Bill Mccagney's team. The Hawks comes into the matchup ranked first in the state, while the Eagles ranks second.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Thomas Centore's team's BEAUVAIS goes up against La Salle Academy's David Cusak.
Travis O'Brien of the Ryan Moniz's team is just 20 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 152 carries O'Brien has put up 980 yards this year.
Next week's game between the Thunderbolts and Geoff Marcone's team will feature an aerial matchup as CORVESE tests his arm against Cusak's defensive ability.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Bishop Hendricken takes on Barrington. Keith Croft's team has allowed 73 points this season, while the Eagles have given up 121.
