Culver Community hasn't had much luck against Rochester recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cavaliers will welcome the Zebras at 4:30 p.m. Culver Community is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.3 runs per game this season.
Culver Community will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Tri-Township, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cavaliers were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Tigers on Wednesday. While the Cavaliers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Savannah Schlemmer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Schlemmer was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aiden Molebash, who went 2-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Abigayle Zehner was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Culver Community was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tri-Township only posted a batting average of .217.
Meanwhile, Rochester came up short against North Miami on Thursday and fell 9-5. The Zebras have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Aubrey Wilson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Miller, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Culver Community pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rochester, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Culver Community hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Rochester struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Culver Community suffered a grim 19-2 defeat to Rochester in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Cavaliers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
