The McDowell Titans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They snuck past T.C. Roberson with a 62-57 win. Given McDowell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while T.C. Roberson is ranked 299th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eli Elliott was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points. The contest was his third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Parkins, who scored 14 points.
T.C. Roberson's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Max McDowell, who scored 21 points along with three steals. McDowell hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. LaRon Mills was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six assists.
McDowell pushed their record up to 10-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for T.C. Roberson, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McDowell will take on South Caldwell at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for T.C. Roberson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Buncombe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in North Buncombe's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
