The contest between John Carroll Catholic and Central wasn't particularly close, with John Carroll Catholic falling 69-55. While losing is never fun, John Carroll Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while Central is ranked 98th).
Despite the loss, John Carroll Catholic still got an impressive performance from Collin Jefferson, who scored 21 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Caden Johnson, who scored eight points.
Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joseph Gayle, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gayle has scored at least a third of Central's points. Christian Maxon was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals and two blocks.
John Carroll Catholic dropped their record down to 7-10 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
John Carroll Catholic will head out on the road to take on Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 67.2 points per game. Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face Fort Lauderdale at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th.
