Desert Vista (Phoenix, Ariz.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as
Jarek Hilgers ran for a touchdown with with 7:00 left in the third quarter, bringing the team to victory over
Basha (Chandler, Ariz.) 35-28.
The score was knotted at 28 heading into the half. The Thunder took the lead for good on a touchdown run by Hilgers in the third quarter.
The Bears'
Zach Werlinger played well. The junior quarterback threw three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to six on the year.
Desert Vista's most effective player was
Kaleb Germinaro. The senior wide receiver ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
A 42-32 Desert Vista victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Basha, which notched a 58-6 victory over Maryvale in its previous outing. With the win the Phoenix school extended its winning streak to four games.
