The Barnwell Warhorses will square off against the Hampton County Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Barnwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Barnwell came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Greenville, falling 8-1.
Case Davis was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hampton County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Lake Marion a 10-0 shutout on Friday. That ten-run margin sets a new team best for the Hurricanes this season.
Owen Shaffer was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with six stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Shane Elmquist was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Malik Terry, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Hampton County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Barnwell has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Hampton County, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Barnwell has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hampton County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Barnwell's way against Hampton County when the teams last played back in March of 2025, as Barnwell made off with a 12-1 win. Will the Warhorses repeat their success, or do the Hurricanes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
