The New Site Royals will take on the Gulfport Admirals in a holiday battle at 12:30 p.m. on Monday at. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (New Site has nine straight wins, Gulfport has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
New Site has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 25 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Jumpertown 62-31 at home. Given New Site's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Jumpertown is ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Site relied on the efforts of Brooklyn Hodum, who scored 15 points along with four steals, and Chloe Chism, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. The match was Chism's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayla Stanley, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 69-27, which was the final score in Gulfport's tilt against St. Martin on Tuesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Gulfport has scored all season.
New Site's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. As for Gulfport, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
