The Niwot Cougars took care of business in their home opener on Thursday. They came out on top against Regis Groff by a score of 44-32. That's another feather in the cap for Niwot, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Niwot's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rohit Das led the charge by scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Jackson Carano was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Despite the loss, Regis Groff had strong showings from Darius Owens, who scored eight points along with six steals, and Jamal Bailly, who scored eight points.
Niwot's win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-0. As for Regis Groff, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-1.
Niwot will look to defend their home court on Friday against Battle Mountain at 8:00 p.m. Hopefully Battle Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday. As for Regis Groff, they will square off against Denver North at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Denver North presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Regis Groff in Colorado (Denver North is ranked 141st, while Regis Groff is ranked 287th).
