Powers Catholic extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 2-10 in the process. They came up short against the Lapeer Lightning, falling 21-3. The Chargers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lightning earlier this season, when they won 12-6.
Katie Sabolish was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Alexa Glady also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for Lapeer, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Lapeer's side, Grace Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Garcia was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lapeer got a massive performance out of GraceLynn Faith, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Hailey Mozola, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Looking ahead, Powers Catholic will take on Lake Fenton at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Blue Devils will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lapeer, they will face off against Swartz Creek at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
