Baseball Recap: Spring Valley Has No Trouble Against Rancho

Spring Valley never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Rancho on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Rams. The Grizzlies have beaten the Rams the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rams has come to flipping the script.

Damon Kodesko was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Spring Valley is 5-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 8-12-1 otherwise. Kodesko was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Benny Vazquez was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Vincent Perrone, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Spring Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rancho only posted an OBP of .211.

Spring Valley's record is now 13-14-1. As for Rancho, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-15.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Spring Valley will host Western at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Rancho, they will welcome Sports Leadership & Management at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulls have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.33 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
