Miami Country Day came into Wednesday's contest looking for another win against Downtown Doral, but Samira Persad wouldn't allow it. The Dolphins won by a set and slipped past the Spartans 3-2 for which the team can thank Persad, who had 21 digs, 13 kills, four aces, and one block. She has been hot, having posted five or more kills the last five times she's played.
Downtown Doral wouldn't go down easily and took Miami Country Day into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-15, 25-22, 24-26, 16-14.
Downtown Doral found their leader in sophomore Persad, who had 21 digs, 13 kills, four aces, and one block. The team also got some help courtesy of Ana Galindo, who had 22 assists and eight digs.
Downtown Doral was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in four consecutive games.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ashley Geller, who had 12 digs. Hailey Ramirez was another key player, getting 15 digs.
The victory got Downtown Doral back to even at 3-3. As for Miami Country Day, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Downtown Doral has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Pinecrest Glades Academy on the 5th. As for Miami Country Day, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Westminster Academy on the 5th.
