Basketball Recap: Vista Grande Takes a Loss

Vista Grande lost against Mountain View back in November of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Vista Grande Spartans fell just short of the Mountain View Mountain Lions by a score of 63-60. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (59), the Spartans still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Vista Grande lost, don't look at Lyle Austin. Despite the final result, he went 13 for 24 on his way to 30 points and six rebounds. Austin's evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Jace Arnone was another key player, going 6 of 11 en route to 13 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Vista Grande smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Isaiah Romero continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mountain View, going 10 for 20 on his way to 24 points in addition to six steals and five assists. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Romero has scored at least a third of Mountain View's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayce Cramblit, who posted six points along with 11 rebounds and five steals.

Vista Grande's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7. As for Mountain View, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-7.

Vista Grande has already played their next contest, a 74-52 loss against Catalina Foothills on the 23rd. As for Mountain View, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-45 defeat against Canyon del Oro on the 23rd.
