Maya Patel looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Kaleigh Cawthon was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Iliana Smith also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Plainfield East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 24 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Plainfield Central not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th (when they won 20-6). Everything went their way against Romeoville as they made off with a 9-0 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Plainfield Central also got a great performance from Kierney Latarewicz as she didn't allow a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. Latarewicz has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava Sommerfeld, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Ava Zitello was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run.
Plainfield East now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Plainfield Central, their record is now 5-6-1.
Plainfield Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Plainfield East has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Plainfield Central, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Plainfield East's sizable advantage in that area, the Wildcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
Plainfield East might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Plainfield Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Bengals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
