The St. James Saints will head out on the road to challenge the Hedgesville Eagles at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for St. James and five for Hedgesville.
St. James suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They were beaten by Springdale Prep 69-24. While losing is never fun, St. James can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while Springdale Prep is ranked 106th).
Meanwhile, Hedgesville came up short against Martinsburg on Thursday and fell 36-23. Hedgesville has struggled against Martinsburg recently, as their game on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Hedgesville got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Maggie Boyer and
Natalie Yates, who each put up seven points.
Gracie Brown held things down on the boards with 12 rebounds.
St. James' defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.4 points per game. As for Hedgesville, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Things could have been worse for St. James, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 47-32 loss to Hedgesville in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brown, who dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 19 rebounds, and ten steals. Now that St. James knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
