II Section I recap Oct. 30, 2012
Apollo extended the longest winning streak in II Section I this week by beating Kellis, 46-13. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Hawks.
Deryn McGee was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 204 yards on 33 carries as La Joya Community lost to Sunnyslope. Joe Gonzalez also contributed to the rushing game with 21 yards on the ground.
Zepeda was the best wideout in the league this week as the Spartans lost to the Vikings. Zepeda racked up six receptions for 229 yards. Angel Medina helped Camelback's passing attack out by catching three balls for 88 yards.
Deylan Jones put up the best numbers through the air as Fairfax beat Independence. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Jones' favorite target this week was Derron Brown, who caught five passes for 87 yards.
Anthony Marquez provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Camelback fell to Sunnyslope. He completed five passes for 209 yards and also ran for seven yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Arturo Macias of Chavez is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1940. He has also thrown 27 touchdowns. On the ground, the Fighting Lobos' McGee has rushed for 1448 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Zepeda. The Camelback star has 37 catches for 836 yards.
Entering into this week's contest against Millennium, Macias is short just 60 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
Blaine Freeman has rushed for 974 yards on 126 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Chavez takes on the Tigers. Bill patter's team is in first place, while Millennium is in fourth place.
The Stampede led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on the Patriots. Jones ran for 21 yards in the win.
