The Omaha North Vikings had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.5 points), and they went ahead and made it 11 on Friday. They really took it to Buena Vista for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-37 victory at home. Omaha North has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 24 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Mynor Strong, who scored 21 points along with six assists and six steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerri'on Williams, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Buena Vista's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mogtaba Mohamed, who scored 19 points, and Zyaire Tucker who scored seven points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Tucker pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Buena Vista struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-5) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Omaha North's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.8 points per game. As for Buena Vista, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-18.
Omaha North and Omaha Central will face off at 3:45 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Omaha North knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matches -- so hopefully Omaha Central likes a good challenge. As for Buena Vista, they and Lincoln East will face off at 3:00 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Buena Vista will be up against Lincoln East's rather soft defense (which has allowed 60.61 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing.
