Even though the Gering Bulldogs scored an imposing 61 points on Saturday, the Scottsbluff Bearcats still came out on top. Scottsbluff took their game against Gering 71-61. Given Scottsbluff's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while Gering is ranked 147th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Scottsbluff found their leader in underclassman Nate Kelley, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Caleb Swisher, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Scottsbluff's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-4. As for Gering, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-9.
Scottsbluff will face off against Mitchell at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Mitchell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Friday. Gering will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sidney at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
