Given South Stokes' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while East Surry is ranked 346th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Starmount lost a heartbreaker to Alleghany when they met back in February of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. Starmount fell 57-49 to Alleghany. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Starmount in their matchups with Alleghany: they've now lost three in a row.
South Stokes' win bumped their record up to 20-1. As for Starmount, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for South Stokes against Starmount in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 88-44 victory. With South Stokes ahead 49-21 at the half, the game was all but over already.
