The East Marion Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Columbia 76-19. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points East Marion has scored all season.
East Marion's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adrinae Aikens, who scored five points along with ten rebounds. Aikens is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played.
It was another big night for Jakira Brown , who scored 26 points for Columbia. The contest was Brown 's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Jalaysha Allen was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
East Marion's defeat was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.6 points per game. As for Columbia, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Marion has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Seminary at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th. Seminary is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. Columbia will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Forrest County Agricultural at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
