After a string of three wins, the Plainview Pirates's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 48-35 to Elgin/Pope John. While losing is never fun, Plainview can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Elgin/Pope John is ranked 17th).
Despite the loss, Plainview still got an impressive performance from Abbie Kromarek, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Kromarek's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elgin/Pope John to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kate Furstenau, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Ashlynne Charf, who scored ten points.
Plainview's loss dropped their record down to 3-1. As for Elgin/Pope John, they pushed their record up to 4-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Plainview will take on Lutheran-Northeast at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lutheran-Northeast is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Elgin/Pope John, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Wausa at 2:00 p.m. Hopefully Wausa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday.
