Apollo Ridge scaled the state rankings by moving to 156 from 223 this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL A Eastern. The Vikings were able to make move up by beating Western Beaver 27-0.
Northgate fell to North Catholic 42-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Alex Lasslo and Andrew Wingard gave West Shamokin a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Lasslo threw for 37 yards, while Wingard ran for 131 yards. Teammate Zac Horner added to the ground attack by rushing for 89 yards.
Lasslo and Wingard gave the Wolves a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.
Wingard was the most successful running back in the league this week.
Zach Hanus was the best wideout in the league this week as Riverview lost to West Shamokin. Hanus tallied 3 receptions for 63 yards.
Lasslo put up the best numbers through the air as Jon McCullough's team beat the Raiders.
Wingard provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Wolves topped Riverview.
Leading WPIAL A Eastern in both passing and receiving yards, Apollo Ridge's Jesse Zelonka and Alex Smith have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Zelonka has thrown for 307 yards this season, while Smith has 8 catches for 133 yards. Wingard from West Shamokin leads the league in rushing with 282 yards.
The Wolves are in first place, while Avonworth is in third place.
Springdale and Wilkinsburg played the closest game in the league this week, with Springdale eventually emerging with a 6-0 victory.
