6A District 11 recap Oct. 16, 2012
South Fort Myers extended the longest winning streak in 6A District 11 this week by beating Fort Myers, 14-3. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Island Coast took down Bishop Verot 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kurt Benkert threw for 261 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 43 yards in the win.
Terrance Moore was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 87 yards on 20 carries as the Green Wave beat the Vikings. T.J. Douglas also contributed to the rushing game with 34 yards on the ground.
Washington was the best wideout in the league this week as Island Coast bested Bishop Verot. Washington tallied five receptions for 92 yards. T.J. Johnson helped Island Coast's passing attack out by catching three balls for 79 yards.
Island Coast's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Gators feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Benkert has thrown for 1492 yards and 15 touchdowns this season, while Johnson has 30 catches for 461 yards. Devon Calhoun leads the league in rushing with 738 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place South Fort Myers takes on second place Island Coast. Last week, South Fort Myers topped Fort Myers, while Joe Bowen's team defeated Phil Dorn's team.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when Grant Redhead's team and the Gators meet this week. The Wolfpack features well-regarded senior Jayron Kearse while Island Coast has Johnson, a sought after senior.
There should be lots of points scored when South Fort Myers and the Gators face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Wolfpack comes in having scored 280 this season, while Island Coast has scored 280. South Fort Myers scored 14 points last week as it defeated Sammy Sirianni's team.
The Gators led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on the Vikings. Benkert in the win.
