The Jack Britt Buccaneers suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They suffered a tough 64-39 defeat at the hands of Cape Fear. Jack Britt has not had much luck with Cape Fear recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Several Buccaneers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dezariyah "Dezzy" Clark, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. That was a full 41% of Jack Britt's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Keara Duncan, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Jack Britt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Jayda Angel continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cape Fear, dropping a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds. Angel is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Kayia Starling was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and six steals.
Jack Britt's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3. As for Cape Fear, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Jack Britt will take on Purnell Swett at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Purnell Swett will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 311th, while Jack Britt is ranked 127th). As for Cape Fear, they will head out on the road to take on South View at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South View is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
