The Stone Memorial Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Montgomery Academy with a sharp 89-69 win on Saturday. With Stone Memorial ahead 46-26 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Cade Capps was his usual excellent self, shooting 6-for-13 from long range and dropping a double-double on 40 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Stone Memorial's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Lane, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Montgomery Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Skyler Stovall. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 45 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Stovall's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brewer Welch, who scored six points.
The win makes it two in a row for Stone Memorial and bumps their season record up to 10-5. As for Montgomery Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stone Memorial and Cookeville will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Cookeville is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Montgomery Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Montgomery Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
