Gibsonburg has gone a perfect 9-0 against Calvert recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Golden Bears will square off against the Senecas at 5:00 p.m. Gibsonburg is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
Gibsonburg barely beat Danbury the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Golden Bears were the clear victors by a 20-4 margin over the Lakers on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Golden Bears, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ava Amor was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Gibsonburg got a massive performance out of Leah Hall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and three doubles. That's the most hits Hall has posted since back in March. Ansley Fleming was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Gibsonburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Calvert posted their closest victory since May 1, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over Liberty-Benton. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Senecas.
Calvert let Alyssa Rishty and Kaleigh Concepcion run wild. Rishty went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Concepcion went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Calvert's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Gibsonburg, their record now sits at 8-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gibsonburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Calvert struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gibsonburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Calvert in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
