The Central Catholic Fighting Irish will square off against the Cardinal Stritch Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Central Catholic is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Central Catholic nor Findlay made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Fighting Irish fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 2-1.
Central Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Rahe, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Cardinal Stritch made sure to put some runs up on the board against Vanlue on Wednesday. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Wildcats. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Angelo Nino made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shawn Weatherford, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Cardinal Stritch: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Simon Ross, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Cardinal Stritch, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-14.
Central Catholic skirted past Cardinal Stritch 7-6 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Do the Fighting Irish have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
