The Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions will face off against the Millennium Tigers at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Mountain Ridge got the win against Westwood by a conclusive 19-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mountain Lions.
Daisy Herrera and Alexis Boumarn were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Herrera tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Boumarn pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, Herrera gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in February. At bat, Herrera went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double, while Boumarn scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Italia Carpio was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Ainsley Cottrell, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Mountain Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .680. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Millennium's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Desert Vista on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Thunder: they've now lost three in a row.
Millennium saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ireland Melendez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Mountain Ridge pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Millennium, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.
Millennium's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Mountain Ridge has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game.
