Lawson is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Hillsboro is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Lightning will host the Burros at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lawson barely beat East Nashville Magnet the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lightning blew past the Eagles 7-1 on Wednesday.
The team relied heavily on Luke Adams, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Hut Hargrove, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Antioch. The Burros have beaten the Bears the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bears has come to flipping the script.
Clayton Jenkins was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Cyrus Conner was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Andrew Hull was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Hillsboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hillsboro's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Lawson, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lawson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hillsboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lawson suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Hillsboro when the teams last played back in March. Can the Lightning avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
