This season hasn't been kind to The Sandalwood Saints, who are still winless after their eighth game. They were outmatched by Riverside on the road and fell 37-7. The matchup on Friday was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly Sandalwood struggled afterwards.
Quentaze Andrews threw for 30 yards on three of seven attempts. On the ground, Cory Mathews rushed for 35 yards.
Riverside got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Myles Kendrick out in front who picked up 72 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Tae?shaun Gelsey also helped out with an impressive 92 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Sandalwood to a paltry 134 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Riverside's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out ten times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Larry Davis and his four sacks.
Sandalwood's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Raines and 6-2 Fletcher (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.7% over those games). As for Riverside, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
Sandalwood will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Mandarin at 6:30 p.m. Mandarin presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sandalwood in Florida (Mandarin is ranked 36th, while Sandalwood is ranked 302nd). Riverside will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ribault at 6:30 p.m. on November 3rd.
