The Saranac Chiefs will head out on the road to face off against the Plattsburgh Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Saranac sitting on three straight wins and Plattsburgh on 11.
Saranac is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Chateaugay with a sharp 21-6 victory on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Austin Lareau and Caleb Champagne were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Lareau pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Champagne tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Lareau has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single hit in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Lareau got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Champagne got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Champagne a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrian Barnes, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He also got three hits, which is notable because Saranac is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 5-7 otherwise. Dominick LaBombard was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Saranac always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .644. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Plattsburgh posted their closest victory since April 18th on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past Northeastern Clinton 4-3.
Diego Rios made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Rios was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Raif Lautenscheutz was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Plattsburgh's record now sits at 14-1. As for Saranac, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Saranac has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Plattsburgh struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Saranac skirted past Plattsburgh 7-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Will the Chiefs repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
