New Palestine extended the longest winning streak in Hoosier Heritage this week by beating Yorktown, 35-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Shelbyville lost to Mt. Vernon 46-15 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jake Laker was a bright spot for the Golden Bears, as he threw for 133 yards and ran for 33 yards in the defeat.
New Palestine's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Blake Luker threw for 224 and 4 touchdowns and Tyler Walden had 115 yards receiving. On the ground Luker chipped in 106 yards. Noah Grable helped New Palestine's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 51 yards.
Walden was the best wideout in the league this week as Kyle Ralph's team bested the Tigers. Walden racked up 6 receptions for 115 yards. Grable helped New Palestine's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 51 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Dragons' Luker and Walden have proven to be a lethal combination. Luker has thrown for 1,258 yards this season, while Walden, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 45 catches for 778 yards. Shelbyville's Laker leads the league in rushing yards with 745.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when New Palestine's Walden goes up against Patrick Parks' team's Blake Miller.
Next week's game between the Dragons and the Golden Bears will feature a good passing match up as Luker will test his arm against Miller's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in Hoosier Heritage this week will be when New Palestine takes on Shelbyville. At the moment, the Dragons are in first, while the Golden Bears are in fourth.
The league will see a high scoring game when New Palestine and Shelbyville face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Dragons comes in having scored 267 this season, while the Golden Bears have scored 147. New Palestine scored 35 points last week as it topped Yorktown.
The Marauders made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,536 from 3,227. The improvement was largely due to a 46-15 victory over Shelbyville last week.
