The Jacobs Golden Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Murphysboro Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Jacobs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Jacobs earned a 7-2 win over Hononegah. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Eagles.
Aiden Stumpf was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Stumpf was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other pitching news, Jacobs got a great performance from Braden Behrens as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Gavin Grummer, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Andrew Deegan, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Murphysboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 13-5 to Goreville.
Reece Mileur made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Corbin Compardo was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Jacobs pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Murphysboro, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Everything went Jacobs' way against Murphysboro in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Jacobs made off with a 9-2 victory. Will Jacobs repeat their success, or does Murphysboro has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
