3A Western Slope recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Steamboat Springs, who took down 148th ranked Montezuma-Cortez, 47-7. Christian Ramirez threw for 292 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 63 yards in the win.
Eagle Valley moved up to 58 from 90 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Western Slope. The Devils were able to make the jump by beating Moffat County 48-14.
Henry Hill was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 184 yards as Glenwood Springs beat the Panthers. Teammate chase derrick added to the ground attack by rushing for 18 yards.
Kauf was the best wideout in the league this week as Steamboat Springs defeated Montezuma-Cortez. Kauf racked up three receptions for 91 yards. Billy Clark helped Steamboat Springs' passing attack out by catching five balls for 88 yards.
Delta's Mitch Whiteside and Chris Black have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Western Slope in both passing and receiving yards. Whiteside has thrown for 819 yards this season, while Black, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 25 catches for 413 yards. Rifle's Ryan Moeller leads the league in rushing yards with 1307.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Rifle takes on second place Palisade. Last week, the Bears bested Battle Mountain, while Palisade topped Durango.
There should be lots of points scored when the Bulldogs and Rifle face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Palisade comes in having scored 210 this season, while Damon Wells's team has scored 235. John Arledge's team scored 28 points last week as it defeated the Demons.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Bulldogs take on the Bears. Palisade has allowed 33 points this season, while Rifle has given up 12. The Bulldogs allowed 13 points last week as they topped Durango.
The Bears extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Huskies, 55-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the Rifle.
