Two dominant signal callers in Damian Briano and Joe Fernandez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Montwood Rams will head out to face off against the Pebble Hills Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Montwood comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Montwood is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were outmatched by Franklin and fell 84-49. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 745th, while the Cougars are ranked 180th).

Despite their defeat, Montwood saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Adrian Cortinas, who picked up 147 receiving yards and two TDs, was perhaps the best of all. Cortinas is on a roll when it comes to receiving touchdowns, as he's now hauled in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Montwood also got help from Miguel Esqueda, who showed off his sure hands for 111 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Pebble Hills really took it to Coronado for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-7 win. That 42 point margin sets a new team best for the Spartans this season.
Pebble Hills found their leader in sophomore Fernandez, who threw for 245 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 65 yards on only five carries.
Pebble Hills was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 211 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.
Pebble Hills didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jose Ambriz. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. Pebble Hills got some further help from Jelan Parra: he picked up two sacks and made seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Pebble Hills' victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Montwood, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
Montwood was dealt a bruising 38-7 defeat at the hands of Pebble Hills in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Rams, Zereian Quarles (who rushed for 176 yards and three scores while picking up 7.3 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
